Although the plans we present here will continue to evolve over the summer with additional input and data, significant elements are firm, and it is now time for our students, faculty, and staff to shift from planning to preparation.

Virginia Tech researchers establish a reverse genetics system to facilitate COVID-19 research

Researchers from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and the Fralin Life Sciences Institute are establishing a reverse genetics system for SARS-CoV-2 that will serve as the basis for vaccine design and for studying viral mutations associated with COVID-19 severity and viral transmission.

Open letter to the Virginia Tech community: University suspending participation in all activities in Italy

Because of the continued growth in the number of COVID-19 cases in Italy, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a “Warning Level 3, Avoid Nonessential Travel” for Italy earlier this afternoon. Given this development, and in accordance with Policy 1070, Virginia Tech is suspending participation in all activities in Italy immediately.
