Researcher expands caregiving study during the COVID-19 pandemic

Toni Calasanti, a Virginia Tech sociology professor, was interviewing both heterosexual and same-sex couples for an Alzheimer’s disease and dementia grant when the COVID-19 pandemic changed the parameters for many of those couples. A supplemental grant is now allowing her team to study those changes.

Hundreds of individuals and several working groups and task forces — at the university, in our communities, and at the state level — have contributed to the shaping of fall plans for all Virginia Tech locations. Although the plans we present here will continue to evolve over the summer with additional input and data, significant elements are firm, and it is now time for our students, faculty, and staff to shift from planning to preparation.
